Disease : Chronic-Seborrhoeic Dermatitis

Seborrheic dermatitis (SD) is a common inflammatory skin disease presenting with a papulosquamous morphology (flakes) in areas rich in sebaceous glands, particularly the scalp, face, and body folds.
Most patients present with deposition of flakes or greasy material that get clogged in a nail while scratching. Deposit area appears over the scalp, inside and around-ear pinna, beard, mustache, and at the corners of the nose. Some patients also present flakes at chest. Pruritis( itching ) is the chief complaint for which the patients consult with Doctor. Next is the deposition of ugly and offensive dandruff and hair fall due to mechanical itching.
There are two varieties of SD The infantile (ISD) and adult (ASD) variants In infants; it is also called a cradle cap. It occurs in the first three months of life and is mild and self-limiting, resolving spontaneously in most cases by the first year of life.
The onset of seborrheic dermatitis is multifactorial.
Still, the onset of SD appears linked to the interplay of healthy microscopic skin flora (especially Malassezia spp.), the composition of lipids on the skin surface, and individual susceptibility. According to researches, neither the level of sebum produced nor the amount of yeast appears to be significant factors.
The worldwide prevalence of seborrheic dermatitis is around 5%, but the prevalence of its non-inflammatory variant, dandruff, is probably closer to 50%. Males are more affected by this disease.
Here is the story of a young man from Hathras. He visited our clinic on 30th Dec 2018. Seborrhoeic dermatitis was troubling him for more than three years. He was experiencing dandruff, crusts, and scabs at the scalp, and these deposits were offensive. This seborrhoeic dermatitis was causing loss of hair also. The patient visited after a long gap. 0n 20th June. He has reported that there was relief initially in the dandruff condition and also in the crust and scabs, but now problem again increasing.
The offensive odor from the scalp is again troubling him. The case has been reanalyzed and medicine transmission changed.
After 1 Year , 2 Months and 27 Days
On 25th March 2020 Amid to Lockdown condition of the country due to corona, we are working from home and our patients are reporting via phone. Judicious use of technological advancement saves time and money and MEDICINE TRANSMISSION THROUGH HAIR IS MEDICAL BOON. We don't trouble our patient by calling physically at the clinic and encourage their phone and video followup, in case of need for a change of medication, we do from our own center, this saves the time of money of patients as well as the nation.
The patient reported over the Whatsapp video call that his seborrhoeic dermatitis gone, there is no dandruff or crust is there at the scalp. The only problem remaining is hair fall and treatment continued.
