CSF rhinorrhoea is the symptom of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage outside the skull cavity (extracranially )
Fluid leaks into the paranasal sinuses ( air spaces of the skull ), and from there into the nasal cavity, and exiting via the anterior nares. It can occur whenever there is a bony or dural defect of the skull base. It can be unilateral or bilateral but mostly one-sided.
Causes are divided into two categories.
Acquired and Congenital.
In acquired cases, the traumatic, tumors, and the iatrogenic cause ( medical surgeries) are there. Congenital causes include meningocele, encephalocele, persistent cricopharyngeal canal, etc.
Diagnosis is made by CT cisternography to locate the exact site of the CSF leak. It is done after injecting contrast into the theca (spine); however, this procedure is highly dependant on patient positioning and timing.
Fluid leaked from the nose may also serve in diagnosis purpose as normal CSF glucose levels lie between 45–80 mg/dL, whereas in average nasal discharge level is 10 mg/dl.
This patient contacted us from Guntur Karnataka after unilateral discharge from the nose. The case was already diagnosed, and her CT cisternography report revealed a defect in the left side of the size 4 mm transverse and 11 mm in length. We have received a video on request on 23 Jan 2017. It was evident in the video the discharge from the left nostril. Her glucose level of CSF fluid also got checked and found 43 mg/dl against the normal level of 10mg/dl.
She sent her hair by post to our center. We have started her transmission of medicine on 16/01/2017 from our clinic.
She made gradual progress. At many followups, we have asked to share videos that she did. She is doing fine to date.
After 5 Days
We request all online patients to share a video of the condition. We are keeping those for records and also for the assessment of the case. She has sent her first video on 23 Jan 2017
After 2 Months and 7 Days
She is better in her condition. On 26 March 2017 we have received a video over Whatsapp, the patient narrated that condition is much better, and there is no CSF leak. Only sometimes there is wet feeling in the nose, but the drop is not coming out of the nose. She said there some congestion in the throat.
She said sometimes she is experiencing pain at the head.
After 3 Months and 1 Days
Almost cured.
Here is the last video we have received from the patient. This video we received on 19 April 2017 She is doing excellent in terma of the CSF leak.
She is narrating condition is excellent. There is no CSF leak now. The only trouble she is facing is head pain. She said there is pain at the throat and nose. She is also experiencing pain while stooping.
After 2 Years , 1 Month and 12 Days
We get in touch with our patients even years after post-treatment. We have done a Whatsapp chat almost two years after treatment on 1 March 2019. The husband of the patient got surprised and happily shared with us that her wife blessed with homeopathy. There is no recurrence of the condition of cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea.
